Awesome Dude vs Ronald McDonald

March 5th 2008 01:26
Alright people, Awesome Food from Awesome Dude is now at- www.awesomefood.com.au . So whack that in your favourites if you know what’s good for you.

Now, this little “rant” is all about McDonalds and some of the weird things they put in their food. I’m sure most people with even the most miniscule brains can tell you that McDonalds is the most evil and manipulative of all the big name franchises. So when they tell you that all of a sudden they’re using real chicken breast in their McNuggets and their McChicken burgers, it makes you think, what the hell were they using before? Well I can’t tell you what they were using before, because I don’t know and I don’t want to know.

First off, I went to the official Australian McDonalds website, now normally I do little to no research on my topics but for the sake of argument I thought I better.

The first fact I would like to bring to your attention is about the new Crispy Chicken Fillet Burger. There was something in the mixture they coat the chicken in that kinda stood out, and I’m not talking about the 20 odd extra additives they throw in there either. I’m talking about “Beef Tallow”. Now I didn’t know what "Beef Tallow" was, so a quick search on Wiki and I was fully informed.

“Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet (“suet is raw beef or mutton fat, especially the hard fat around the loins and kidneys”) unlike suet, tallow can be stored for extended periods without the need for refrigeration to prevent decomposition, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation.”

Sounds a bit suspect to me, wait until you here the “uses”

“It is used in animal feed, to make soap, for cooking, as a bird feed, and was once for making candles. It can be used as a raw material for the production of biodiesel and other oleochemicals”.

It goes on to say

“Amid concerns in the 1990s over high cholesterol content, and protests from Hindus (many of whom do not consume food derived from beef) and vegetarians, McDonald’s french fries were cooked in a mixture 93% beef tallow and 7% cottonseed oil”.

It makes you want to go down to your local McDonalds, find the Ronald McDonald statue and cut it’s fuckin’ head off!!!

Anyway, I was going to tackle a couple more outrageous ingredients, but I’ll just mention one more for now. The Lean Beef burger, now I assumed the only difference between the normal Beef burger (which is 100% beef) would be they used “Lean Beef” in place of the normal “Beef”.

Now I was a little off the mark.

“Lean Beef Patty: Beef, Pro-Lite Gel [Water, Milk Solids Non Fat, Thickeners (410, 415, 440)] Premix [Dextrose, Acidity Regulators( 327,333,450), Salt, Maltodextrin, Gelling Agent (508), Garlic Powder, Herbs, Spices and Spices Extract, Yeast Extract, Hydrolysed Maize Protein, Canola Oil, Flavours].”

Do you feel sick now?

My facts came from-

Really Long Link

And-
Wikipedia- type in- beef tallow, suet. You can also get a list of food additives off Wiki.

It's not that surprising, though it's pretty unusual that the chicken fingers have beef tallow in them!
